Food: Where Does it Come From?

★ Here's how SAAVI teaches this:
💡 Example

When your didi makes a yummy paneer butter masala for you — she uses so many things, right? Paneer, butter, tomatoes, onions, spices. Have you ever wondered where each of these ingredients actually comes from?

⚠️ Misconception

❌ We often think that plants only give us fruits and vegetables that we eat directly.

✅ But actually, we eat different parts of plants — sometimes leaves (like spinach), sometimes stems (like potato), sometimes roots (like carrot), and sometimes seeds (like rice or pulses). Can you think of another plant part you've eaten?

🔬 Activity

Take a handful of moong dal and soak it in water overnight. The next day, drain the water and tie the dal in a wet cloth. Watch how small white sprouts emerge in a few days. What do these sprouts tell us about how plants grow?

Components of Food

★ Here's how SAAVI teaches this:
💡 Example

Dekho — when your mom makes a big, yummy thali for a festival, or even packs your school tiffin — she often puts different things, right? There's rice or roti for energy, dal for building muscles, and sabzi for staying healthy and fighting germs! So next time you eat, can you try to guess what each food item is giving your body?

⚠️ Misconception

❌ Many students think that only eating a lot of protein, like dal or eggs, will make them strong and healthy, and other foods are not as important.

✅ But Nomi didi says, your body needs *all* kinds of nutrients, not just protein! Carbohydrates give you energy to play, vitamins protect you, and even fats in small amounts are important. It's like a team where everyone plays a role!

🔬 Activity

Ek kaam karo — take a small piece of paper from your notebook. Gently rub a tiny bit of butter, or a few drops of cooking oil, or even a piece of fried snack like a samosa on it. Hold the paper up to the light after a few minutes. Do you see a greasy, translucent (see-through) spot? That's a sign of fat! Can you think of other foods you eat that might leave a similar spot, even if you don't add oil directly?
