Nutrition in Plants
★ Here's how SAAVI teaches this:Hey Nidhi — you know how your Amma cooks such delicious food in the kitchen for the whole family, right? She uses ingredients like atta, sabzi, spices to make roti, daal, everything. But have you ever wondered — how do plants get their food? Who cooks for them? Socho zara, do they have their own little kitchen somewhere?
❌ A lot of students think that plants 'eat' soil, just like we eat our food. They imagine the plant's roots gobbling up the soil for nutrition.
✅ But that's not quite right, silly! Plants take only water and important minerals from the soil. Their real food — the sugar they need to grow — is actually made in their leaves, using sunlight and carbon dioxide from the air. It's like they have a super-power to create their own food!
Ek kaam karo — take a potted plant and keep it in a dark room for two days. Then, take one leaf from it and put a few drops of iodine solution on it. Now, bring the plant back to sunlight and after a few hours, take another leaf and test it with iodine again. Notice the change!

Nutrition in Animals
★ Here's how SAAVI teaches this:Dekho — when you eat your favourite gulab jamun or a crunchy dosa, does your body use it directly for energy? No, right? — First, it needs to be broken down into tiny, simpler substances that your body can actually use. This whole process of taking in food, breaking it down, using it, and then getting rid of waste, is called nutrition! Socho zara — why can't we just absorb a whole chapati directly into our blood?
❌ Many students think that our food is fully digested in the stomach itself.
✅ Oh, not at all! The stomach is just one part of the journey where food gets churned and partially broken down. Most of the actual digestion and absorption of nutrients happens much later, in the small intestine! Why do you think our small intestine is so long and coiled up inside us?
Take a small piece of plain roti or bread and just chew it slowly for about 30-40 seconds, without swallowing it. Notice how its taste changes and it starts feeling a bit sweeter after some time, even though you didn't add sugar?
